Harry F. Abe is the Director Emeritus of the Department of Family Practice of New Island Hospital, Bethpage, NY. After attending Marquette Medical School, he practiced family medicine for 45 years and received a Citation for his dedicated services from the Nassau County Executive, NY. Dr. Abe is a lifetime member of the Nassau County Medical Society, New York State Medical Society, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association and served as county Delegate to the NY State Medical Society. Dr. Abe has his Diplomate as Fellow of American Academy of Family Practice (FAAFP). Dr. Abe served as a medic in the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Italy and France during WWII. He is a life member of "Go For Broke" National Veterans Association, former member of the Board of Directors of the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles. Gordon A. Aoyagi is the Director of Homeland Security and Public Policy with Justice and Security Strategies of Maryland. He has over 20 years of service with Montgomery County, Maryland, culminating as the first Director of its Homeland Security Department. Aoyagi previously served as the County’s Division Chief for Transit Services, Senior Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, and as Fire Administrator. Board Member since 2006.

David Asaki, Esq. has been a solo practice attorney in Rockville, Maryland since 1990. His areas of concentration are criminal and civil litigation. He has offered pro bono services for numerous non-profit and government organizations in the Washington, DC area. Before he started his own practice, Asaki worked at the US Department of Navy – Research and Development Center, Booz, Allen, and Hamilton, and he founded Open Class Athletes, as an agent for world class runners. He is a partner of Traditional Gold Properties, LLC, which owns several golf courses in the Mid-Atlantic area. Board member since 2005.

Federing is Executive Director, Business and Public Policy, Government Affairs for KPMG, one the world’s largest audit firms, and serves on the board of the National Conference of Citizenship, where he represents NJAMF. He was previously a senior advisor in the US Senate and House of Representatives for a dozen years. Federing is currently a Board member of the congressionally-chartered National Conference on Citizenship, founded and directs the Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Programme, and has directed Press Information Center operations at the last four Democratic National Conventions. Helen Kawagoe has been the elected City Clerk of Carson, California, since 1974. Kawagoe holds the prestigious titles of Certified Municipal Clerk and Master Municipal Clerk. She has served as the President of the following organizations: Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials (APAMO), International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), and the City Clerks Department of the League of California Cities (LCC). She is a member of the California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) Foundation Board. In November 1993, Kawagoe received the Sacred Order of the Precious Crown, Apricot, from the Emperor of Japan for 20 years of service to further the business, political and cultural ties between the United States and Japan. Kawagoe is a Founding/Charter Member of NJAMF since its inception.

Daphne Kwok is the Interim Executive Director for the Asians and Pacific Islanders with Disabilities of California, San Francisco, California. She served as the past Executive Director of the Angel Island Immigration Station of San Francisco, Executive Director of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies, and for 11 years as the Executive Director of the Organization of Chinese American. Kwok served on the US Secretary of Energy’s Advisory Board. Board Member since 2003.

Daniel P. Matthews is the Vice President, Civil Programs for Lockheed Martin Washington Operations in Arlington, Virginia. Matthews has held increasingly responsible positions for BDM International and Northrup Grumman. In 2003, he was selected for the Presidential appointment as the Chief Information Officer for the US Department of Transportation. Board member since 2006.

Norman Y. Mineta is Vice Chairman of Hill & Knowlton, based in its Washington, DC office. He served as the US Secretary of Transportation in President George H. Bush’s administration and as the Secretary of Commerce in President Bill Clinton’s administration. For almost 30 years Mineta represented San Jose, California, first on the city council, then as Mayor, and as a Member of Congress. In Congress he was the Chairman of the House Transportation and Public Works Committee. Mineta has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor and is the recipient of Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan.

He has served as a director of the Seattle Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank. Moriguchi was recognized as The Nisei of the Biennium by the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and has been recognized with a Kunsho by the Japanese Government and Emperor. Moriguchi served as NJAMF Chairman.

Sidney Mukai is the founder and principal of Sidney Mukai Design/Build, a design and construction company in Fresno, California. Among his many design achievements are the design of the Fresno Buddhist Temple, Small Chapel; the Fresno Buddhist Temple Issei Memorial Building and the NJAMF Donor Wall in the Main Pavilion of the Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles, California.

Raymond S. Murakami, D.D.S., a retired Washington, DC dentist, was the Secretary of NJAMF during the construction phase of the Memorial. He then served as NJAMF's Board Chairman from 2006 to 2007. He continued his service as Chair of Donor Wall Project, which lists the names of contributors to the construction of the Memorial, and is displayed at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California. Murakami served in the US Army as an interpreter in occupied Japan.

Jane T. Nishida, Esq. is a Senior Environmental Institutions Specialist at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC. She is the former Secretary of the Maryland Department of Environment and previously held the office of Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Nishida currently serves as Chair of the Governor's Commission of Asian Pacific American Affairs in Maryland and Co-chair of the Sustainability Working Group in Montgomery County, Maryland.

James Y. Nishimura lives in Laurel Hollow, New York, is fully retired and spends most of his time in travel. He was born February 6, 1930 in Seattle, Washington, interred during WWII in the Minidoka Internment camp in Idaho and relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1944. During all his adult life he was associated with the cable television industry from its inception in 1952 to his retirement in 1986. His initial employment was with Jerrold Electronic Corporation, whose founder, Milton J. Shapp, is credited as one of the pioneers of the cable television industry. Nishimura later joined Intercontinental Electronics Corp. (Intec) where he held several senior level positions. In 1963, Nishimura formed Communications Systems Corporation to develop cable systems principally in the south eastern United States. He was awarded the franchise to construct and operate cable television systems in Savannah, Georgia, Huntington, New York, and Ft.Walton Beach, Florida. He also formed a construction company that designed and/or constructed cable systems in California, Wyoming, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, New York and other states. He served on the Board of Governors of the Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles, California. He also served on the Zoning Board of Appeal of the Village of Laurel Hollow, New York where he resides.

Rose Ochi, Esq. is the Executive Director of the California Forensic Science Institute, Los Angeles, California. Ochi served as an Executive for Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. A President Clinton appointee as Director of the Department of Justice Community Relations Service, she became the first Asian American woman to serve at the Assistant Attorney General level. Previously, she served as the Associate Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. Upon her return to Los Angeles, she was appointed to the LA Police Commission. Board Member since 2001.

Sumiye (Sue) Okubo is the former Associate Director of Accounts for the Bureau of Economic Analysis of the US Department of Commerce. She has served as the Vice Chair of the Asian American Executives Network. Okubo is the former Manager for R&D at Strategy Analysis of GTE Laboratories.

Craig Uchida, Ph.D. is the founder and president of Justice and Security Strategies, headquartered in Silver Spring Maryland. He is a former senior official and administrator for the US Department of Justice. Uchida is also the former director of the Office of Criminal Justice Research at the National Institute of Justice at the US Department of Justice. Board Member since 2002.
